AN INTERVIEW WITH DIPPYWRITES

Albertine is a 23 year old beauty blogger from London. She can be found at dippywrites.com.
When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in 2010, but have had my current blog since December 2012. It’s weird to think I’ve been doing this for nearly seven years now!

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging after reading and watching girls just like me talking about their favourite beauty products and fashion items. It really inspired me to share my own love for fashion and beauty online – I’ve always loved reading magazines and the blogging community made me realise I could create similar content myself.

What advice do you have about taking blog photos?
My number one tip is to give yourself plenty of time! Sometimes I get the shot I want in ten minutes, sometimes it take some over an hour before I’m happy. The more time I give myself, the more likely I am going to be happy with the photos because I don’t feel rushed. Also, don’t be afraid to play around with focus points, lighting and photo set ups. I try to change my photo set ups every season – this keeps me excited about my photography and my blog content fresh!

What are your top 5 beauty products you use every day?
Exuviance Day Repair SPF30 Moisturiser – It’s so important to wear an SPF daily to protect your skin from sun damage.
Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Cleansing Oil – This is perfect for removing stubborn makeup and dirt, also keeps my skin hydrated.
L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation – This sits flawlessly on my skin and looks just as good at the end of the day as it does at the beginning.
Maybelline Stay Matte Pressed Powder – I’ve lost count of how many of these I’ve bought, but it sets my makeup so beautifully.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Honestly amazing, gives me the most beautiful, defined lashes, I can’t do my makeup without it
Biggest makeup regret?
Oh gosh, this is a tricky one because I’ve definitely made LOADS of beauty mistakes in the past, particularly in my teens. I think my biggest makeup regret is using really harsh products on my skin when I was younger. I definitely bought into the whole anti-spots campaign, and believed I had to use a multitude of products on my skin to combat it! Interestingly, I’ve found that once I ditched the overly-complicated skincare routine and stuck to just cleansing and a bit of moisturiser, my skin has been much clearer. I wish I had saved my skin the irritation of harsh products.
What do you think is the most underrated beauty brand?
I have to say GOSH on this one. I’m head over heels in love with their matte liquid lipsticks, every time I wear one I get people asking me which brand it is, and people are always surprised when I say GOSH. I also really like their eyeshadow palettes, so recommend checking them out when you’re looking for something new to try.
Who is your blogging inspiration?
This is a tough one because, if I’m honest, I’m inspired by a wide variety of bloggers. Steph (Nerd About Town) encourages me to be confident in my own skin, Hayley (London Beauty Queen) gives me hope for the future of blogging and Maria (Maria . J) and Megan (Life With MCM) inspire me to improve my photography because their blogs are just beautiful.
What are your blogging tips and advice?
I don’t think anyone can give concrete advice when it comes to blogging, because everyone’s blogging journey is different. However, what I will suggest is that you engage with the blogging community, support it and learn from others within it. The more positivity you put into the community, the more you will get back! I’ve also found supporting fellow bloggers, rather than competing against them, has made me a much happier person and has helped me to really fall back in love with my own blog.
